Mount Taishan was inscribed as a World Cultural and Natural Heritage Site in 1987.
Located in the central part of Shandong Province, Mount Taishan’s top Yuhuangding, stands at an elevation of 1, 545 meters. It served as an important site for ancient Chinese emperors to pay tribute to the mountain in the Fengshan sacrifices, praying for national prosperity and the well-being of the people. Mount Taishan preserves over 1, 800 stone tablets and inscriptions and 22 temples, where these cultural masterpieces harmoniously blend with the natural landscape.
Mount Taishan has deep links to the Chinese civilization for five millennia, symbolizing the prosperity of the nation and the continuity of the ethnic group. It serves as a spiritual home for the Chinese nation, a microcosm of Eastern culture, and a sanctuary for the concept of " harmony between heaven and humanity, " carrying profound geographical, historical, and cultural significance.
