Qinghai Hoh Xil was inscribed as a World Natural Heritage Site in 2017.
Located in the western part of Qinghai Province, and in the northeastern extremity of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, the property encompasses the entirety of the Hoh Xil National Nature Reserve and part of the Suojia-Qumahe Conservation Subarea within the Sanjiangyuan National Nature Reserve, with a total area of over 60, 000 square kilometers. Home to more than 230 species of wildlife, including Tibetan antelopes, wild yaks, and Tibetan wild donkeys, it is one of China's largest, highest-altitude, and most biologically diverse protected areas, sometimes referred to as the world’s“Third Pole”.
Hoh Xil embodies global consensus on ecological conservation and the preservation of endangered species. The ecological changes observed in Hoh Xil over the years encapsulate decades of development in China's ecological civilization.
