Fanjingshan was inscribed as a World Natural Heritage Site in 2018.
Located in the junction of Jiangkou, Yinjiang, and Songtao counties of Tongren, Guizhou province, Fanjingshan is one of the earliest places in southern China to rise from the ocean to become land, with a history dating back to approximately 1. 4 billion years ago. Fanjingshan is the only remaining oasis at the same latitude on Earth, boasting rich biodiversity with a diverse array of flora and fauna, including ancient and rare species dating back from 70 million to 2 million years ago. It is home to over 7100 species of wildlife, including the rare Guizhou snub-nosed monkey, making it renowned as an"ecological kingdom"and a"gene bank of biological resources. "
The wide range and complexity of animal species in Fanjingshan are rare nationwide, preserving ecological processes of growth and evolution for both flora and fauna. This continuity fosters the ongoing vitality of life on this site, rendering it of significant scientific research value.
